The DIY Trap

Hey Reader,

This week I got smacked in the face by a very glamorous adulting moment…

I needed to paint my rental property, and I fully planned to do it myself.

Because I can.
Because I’ve done it before.
Because “why pay someone when I can just knock it out this weekend?”

And then I had a thought:

Yes, hiring a painter costs money… but it buys back my time.

So I decided it might be worth it.

And THEN… (because life loves timing) my car’s check engine light came on.

I got the quote.

Over $4,000.

Ouch.

Immediately my brain went, “Well… there goes the painter budget. I’ll just paint it myself.”

But then I caught myself…

If I hire the painter, I get my time back - and I can use that time to actually MAKE the money I need for the car.

If I don’t hire the painter, I “save” the money… but I lose the time that would help me create the money.

Same dollars. Totally different outcome.

So here’s the question that helped me decide (and it might help you too):

What will cost me more in the next 30–60 days: spending the money… or spending the time?

Because time isn’t free.
It’s not neutral.
And it’s definitely not unlimited.

Sometimes we avoid spending money because it feels “responsible”… but the tradeoff is we spend time we can’t get back - and we delay the very results we’re trying to create.

And I see this show up in business all the time…

A lot of women tell me they want to wait to hire a coach until they have more revenue, more consistency, more clarity…
…but what if getting support now is what helps you create the consistency you’re waiting for?

Not because you “can’t do it yourself.”
You can.

But because doing it yourself costs more than you realize - in time, in momentum, and in the mental load of figuring it all out alone.

If you’re in that “I’ll wait until…” season, try this:

  • What result am I waiting for before I invest in support?
  • What would change if I had a plan and accountability for the next 90 days?
  • What’s the cost of staying in the same loop for another 3 months?

If you’re reading this and thinking, “Okay… you've got me” hit reply and let me know what you’re working through.

I’ll point you toward the best next step (even if it’s not coaching with me).

Cheering for you,

PS You don’t need to do everything yourself to be “responsible.” Sometimes the most responsible move is protecting your energy and your momentum.
